What if I ate the silica packets?

Posted on November 30, 2015 at 10:54 pm

Many deliveries are packaged with small silica packets, and on them it is written, do not eat.

But what if you did eat them? What would you do? Would it Hurt?

Fortunately Silica gel is nearly harmless, and that’s why you find it in food products. Silica, which is actually silicon dioxide, is the same material found in quartz. The gel form contains millions of tiny pores that can adsorb and hold moisture.

While the contents of a silica gel packet are basically harmless, it would be unpleasant to attempt to consume the silica crystals. The sole job of these tiny desiccants is to adsorb moisture.

If you emptied a packet of the stuff into your mouth, the moisture would be absorbed from the sides and roof of your mouth leaving you with “dry mouth.” If silica gel did happen to make it past your mouth you might suffer a few irritating side effects, such as dry eyes and an upset stomach or stomach discomfort.

The Binding Of Isaac, Rebirth

Posted on November 1, 2015 at 12:13 am

One of the most unique and entertaining games of recent years, The Binding Of Isaac has been a sort of small cultural hit.

The Binding Of Isaac, Rebirth is an updated version and improves upon the former in many ways. New enemies, bosses, pick ups and characters are some of the features added to the game. Some small graphical improvements have also been made, but nothing that detracts from the uniquely grotesque and fun style of the original.

The game plays much the same its inspiration. Great if you just wanted more Isaac, bad if you were expecting an overhaul of the original. But changes that have been made are do impact the game for the better. Not detracting in anyway from the fun and style of the original.

Available on steam, The Binding Of Isaac, Rebirth is a fantastic update to a unique game. Pick it up this version if you are new to the series.

Ark: Survival Evolved (Early Access)

Posted on September 30, 2015 at 10:35 pm

A new entry onto the PC gaming market, Ark: Survival Evolved puts you in the role of a survivor in a world run wild with dinosaurs, sci-fi buildings and other human players. As the game is currently early access it is still in development so features are still being added as the game is being built.

Essentially another early access survival game. The difference that separates this one between the horde of (EA) Survival games is that this one has some promise. Development is supported by Epic games, the creators of Gears of War and the Unreal Engine. With pedigree support like this the game is likely to see completion, which is a concern with EA games as there is a theme of them not being finished evolving.

The game has promise. It looks nice but runs badly, optimisation is being carried out as the game is constructed but currently it is noticeable. There are some unique features like water pipes and taps which can be used to support plants and players.
